Elbert Guillory: Thank You!

Mr. Guillory explains quite succinctly why we all should be conservatives. Thank you, sir!

Louisiana Senator Elbert Guillory (R-Opelousas) explains why he recently switched from the Democrat Party to the Republican Party. He discusses the history of the Republican Party, founded as an Abolitionist Movement in 1854. Guillory talks about how the welfare state is only a mechanism for politicians to control the black community.

More comment on Mr. Guillory to come. More about him on his official website here.

Missing Ronald Reagan

Compare the speeches of Ronald Reagan to Barack Obama. What an extraordinary difference.

A life-long Democrat, in this speech Reagan explains why he had joined the Republican party. His reasons resonate even today; unfortunately over the last 50 years, the GOP has drifted towards Democrat policies, enabling the incremental encroachment into our freedoms and security.

“A Time for Choosing,” was an endorsement speech for Republican presidential candidate Barry Goldwater. It is from October 27, 1964 and courtesy of The Ronald Reagan Presidential Library.

Supporting Vets in Need

The Poster Project

This Band of Brothers theatrical poster is signed by eight WWII Easy Company vets and 28 cast member. It is being auctioned on eBay. 100% of the proceeds will go to GallantFew.org. The auction ends June 16, 2013.

If you’re like me, HBO’s Band of Brothers moved you to tears and stirred a patriotic compassion for those that fought for the world’s freedom.

The 2001 miniseries inspired actor and Marine Corps veteran Michael Broderick to create The Poster Project. This labor of love launched in April of 2012, when he purchased a Band of Brothers poster signed by six Easy Company veterans. Broderick then diligently acquired the signatures of eight WWII veterans portrayed in the series and 28 of the cast members, including Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks.

Broderick teamed up with eBay to create a charity auction to benefit GallantFew, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping veterans help themselves and each other.

100% of the proceeds go to GallantFew; the poster auction ends on June 16.

HBO Watch reported:

Broderick chose to support GallantFew because of his friendship with Army Ranger SFC Mike Schlitz. Schlitz was badly wounded by an IED (Improvised Explosive Device) while serving in Iraq. Schlitz suffered burns over 80% of his body, lost both hands and has endured over 80 surgeries, but Broderick says Schlitz’s spirit remains unequaled. “The man does not quit. When he told me about GallantFew and the support they provide returning veterans, it was a no-brainer for me.”

Broderick explains the organization’s purpose and why they were chosen to benefit from The Poster Project: “GallantFew’s mission is to eliminate veteran unemployment, homelessness and suicide by facilitating mentor relationships between new veterans transitioning out of the military and a veteran in their community that has already made that transition successfully. This is a fellow combat veteran that can help the returning veteran, whether by assisting them in writing a resume, opening their rolodex or simply grabbing a cup of coffee and listening. GallantFew is a quickly growing organization that has a fantastic model. They’re already seeing a lot of success and are hoping to expand further. I want to help them do that.”

Correction: Canadian Doctors & Abortion Requirements

I misspoke yesterday, stating that Canadian doctors could lose their license if they failed to perform abortions. That is apparently not true; Canadian doctors are not mandated to perform abortions and are not reprimanded for refusing to perform abortions.

My apologies.

Smoking With Kids in Car Illegal?

Smoking with kids in the car will soon be illegal in Oregon.

Smoking with kids in the car will soon be illegal in Oregon.

Oregon Senate recently passed a “No smoking with kids in the car” bill (SB444). We don’t think smoking is a good idea. Smoking in a vehicle with children is even a less intelligent choice, but this is yet another classic example of nanny state politics. According to an article in the Statesman Journal, one of the bill’s supporters, Rep. Mitch Greenlick, D-Portland, proudly defended the nanny state legislation, saying “Nannies take care of the children they’re responsible for.”

The new legislation, if signed into law, will be a “secondary” offense, i.e., police will not be allowed to stop motorists solely for smoking with kids in the car, but will allow citations for smoking motorists when they are stopped for other reasons such as speeding. It is simply a matter of time until smoking with children in a vehicle is a primary offense, as some legislators, such as Rep. Jeff Barker, opposed the law because it did not make smoking with kids in the car a primary offense (as reported by the Oregonian).

Of course exposing kids to smoke is a bad idea, but making it a crime is a crime.

According to the Oregon Senate Democrats:

SALEM— Today, the Oregon Senate took a step to protect children’s health by clearing the air in cars and trucks. Senate Bill 444A, which passed on a bipartisan 19-10 vote, makes smoking in a motor vehicle with a driver or passenger under 18 a traffic violation.

“We have a responsibility to keep Oregon’s children safe from exposure to smoke, which causes health problems like severe asthma and respiratory infections,” said Senator Elizabeth Steiner Hayward (D-Portland), chief sponsor of the bill and a family physician. “SB 444A is an important step to protecting children from the negative, sometimes lifelong impacts of secondhand smoke.”

According to the American Lung Association, infants and young children are especially vulnerable to secondhand smoke while their lungs are still developing. When a smoker lights up in in the enclosed space of a car or truck, secondhand smoke can reach concentrations up to 27 times more potent than concentrations when smoking in a home.

“Children have very little control over the small space inside of a car, and it’s a huge health problem when that space fills up with smoke,” said Senator Rod Monroe (D-Portland), who authored Oregon’s original Clean Indoor Air Act in 1981. “It is up to us to protect our children’s health, and with SB 444A we can prevent long-lasting health effects from unsafe secondhand smoke.”

Gitmo Offers ‘Resume Writing’ Class for Terrorists

By Elizabeth Harrington

(CNSNews.com) – The 166 terrorist detainees at Guantanamo Bay are offered a course in “interviewing and resume writing” as part of their indefinite stay at the prison camp.

Joint Task Force Guantanamo (JTF-GTMO) lists the variety of classes and activities it offers to the terrorist trainers, financiers, bomb makers, recruiters and facilitators who are housed at Gitmo.

While the Obama administration has claimed there are no other ways to reduce federal spending other than cutting air traffic controller cuts, halting White House tours – and other high-profile silliness in hopes of aggravating everyday citizens to urge legislators into continues spending idiocy – we are actually providing resume writing classes to terrorists. Absurd.

McClintock on the IRS Scandal: “Give Us Their Names”

California Congressman Tom McClintock spoke eloquently on the IRS scandal:

One of the most disturbing aspects of the unfolding scandal involving the misuse of the IRS is what can only be described as an insatiable appetite for names, names, and more names.

Conservative groups – and only conservative groups – seeking to organize under Section 501 were subjected to pages of intrusive and irrelevant questions – but with a common theme: Give us the names.

Give us the names of your volunteers.  Give us the names of your donors and your family members and your business associates.  Give us the names of the speakers and audience participants at your meetings.

One man applying to form a group to educate teenagers in Constitutional principles was told to turn over the names of his students.

The full text of his speech on May 21, 2013 is here; the video is below.

The notion that somehow President Obama and his re-election knew nothing about this (successful) effort by the IRS to suppress conservative votes is laughable. No one will ever prove Mr Obama knew of the IRS activities, but what other plausible excuse could there be?
